Theme

Arts, media, culture

About the project

Beauty East, founded in Nov. 2010 and registered as the Chinese Performing Arts Society in UMSU, is a student-led project, which raises funds to support the education and careers of Chinese artists in Manchester. We provide training and performance opportunities for the local community. Our drama and film productions are designed to promote Chinese culture and Sino-British culture. It helps students to develop leadership in media and culture. If you believe in the power of media to promote cultural diversity, join us!

Activities

Positions in the team: Marketing Officer, Production Manager, Fundraising, Director, and Technician.

Activities include:

  • A Welcome Party & Workshop Taster, and a Drama Night where we showcase English adaptations of Chinese drama classics
  • A World AIDS Day's Free Documentary Screening, Performance Workshops & Christmas Showcase, a Film & Food Night, and a Chinese Spring Festival to celebrate and promote Chinese culture
  • A Chinese Folk Arts Festival, a celebration of culture diversity where we make paper crafts and sell them to raise funds.
  • Your ideas for projects are welcome too!

What you can get out of it:

As a Beauty East member you can meet like-minded people, make new friends and gain experience in screen and stage productions. You can also increase your employability with skills in leadership, communication, marketing, fundraising, team working, and project management.
